Giving your dog an unlimited amount of time to think and then perform a behavior after being given a verbal cue or hand signal. This works as long as your dog is still engaged. If they wander off or lose interest, it is time to reset and try again.

With a few repetitions, the delay between the cue and the behavior will shrink on its own, as your dog learns that responding quickly gets them to the fun part: the treat.

This approach is the opposite of "cue chanting," where owners repeat the cue multiple times before the dog responds. Cue chanting dilutes the meaning of the cue and teaches dogs that they don't need to respond the first time.
