Long Lines

A lightweight length of rope with a clip on one end that attaches to your dog's harness (never a collar). The line drags behind your dog, simulating off-leash freedom while giving you full control.

Safety:

  • Tangles: The line can easily wrap around your legs, your dog's legs, or other dogs. Practice the "long line dance" by keeping a constant eye on the line near your feet and stepping or hopping over it as needed. Avoid training multiple dogs on long lines at the same time.
  • Rope Burn: Wear gloves to protect your hands from friction burns if your dog suddenly pulls.
  • Dirty or Wet Lines: Waterproof long lines made of Biothane are more expensive but convenient.
  • Being knocked down or dragged: Never wrap the end of the long line around your hand, never attach it to your waist, and never stand on the end with both feet. If you need to hold the line shorter, let the excess drag behind you or fold it into a tangle-free coil that unravels smoothly.
