Delivering food reinforcement while your dog is in the exact position you just cued. This ensures you are reinforcing the correct behavior and encourages your dog to hold that position for a short duration.
For example, if you ask your dog to sit, deliver the treat only while they are still sitting. If they stand up before you feed them and you give the treat while they are standing, you are accidentally reinforcing the stand instead of the sit.
If this happens, you can still reinforce the desired sit by luring your dog back into the sit position before giving the treat. This way, they get reinforced in the correct position, and they quickly learn that standing up delayed the reward, making it worthwhile to hold the sit in the future.
