Gentle

Basic Manners ยท 16 steps ยท by Push Drop Stick

Your Dog will learn to take treats gently, both on the verbal cue 'Gentle' and automatically.

**Management:** If you need to reinforce Your Dog with treats without practicing gentle, toss a treat on the ground or use a flat open palm. **Do not toss the treat at Your Dog's mouth** for them to catch, as this can make shark-mouth problems worse!

Training steps

  1. Be gentle with a gloved fist

    Setup: Your Dog is nearby.

Wear a thick glove, then hold a treat in your closed fist and present it to Your Dog. As soon as they are gentle, open your hand and feed them the treat from your palm, or toss it to the side if Your Dog is still rough taking treats from an open hand.

Success: Your Dog licks your glove.
