Your Devices and Your Data
Everything else in this handbook is about your dog. This page is about where the training lives: which screens exist, what is kept, and what happens if you drop your phone in a lake.
It is short on purpose. The honest summary is that the app runs on your phone, the phone is enough, and everything past that is convenience.

Accounts: What You Get Without One
There are three tiers, and only one of them costs money.
No email. You get sixteen plans, with goals, games and full session history. Everything works. Nothing syncs, and none of your training leaves the phone, which means that if the phone goes, the training history goes with it. That is not a threat, it is just how a database on a phone works, and we would rather say it than have you find out. You can still browse every plan we have on the website without signing in to anything; the sixteen is how many you can train in the app. (Two things do leave the phone on every tier: crash reports and anonymous feature counts, and the app's check for a software update. Neither one contains your dog. See What Is Kept, and What Trains the Models.)
With an email. Unlimited plans, plus goals, games and history as before, and now it all syncs and is kept on our server. Your phone becoming a paperweight stops being a training problem. It also syncs to the website, which is where the rest of the plans live and where a plan is easiest to read properly. This tier is also free. There is no trial window and no card.
Subscribed. Adds Coach: the conversation, the plan writing, the session reviews. See the Coach section for what that actually does.
So the line worth remembering is that paying is for Coach, not for training. The engine, the plans, the goals, the games and the graphs are free at every tier.

A free trial. The free tiers are not a countdown. They do not expire, degrade, or start nagging.
Device Sync and User Sync
Two different things share a word.
Device sync is your own devices agreeing with each other: your phone, your iPad, and the website. It happens automatically when you log in, and it is what the email tier buys you. Train on the phone in the garden, look at the session chart on a bigger screen afterwards.
User sync is two people on the same dog. See Sharing a Dog with Another Trainer.
The website is worth knowing about for its own sake. It shows a plan in full, including the split steps the phone deliberately hides, along with each step's type, treat values, rep counts and thresholds. If you have ever wanted to see the whole ladder rather than the rung you are standing on, that is where it is.

A backup you have to run. There is no sync button and no export step. Log in and it is happening.
What Is Kept, and What Trains the Models
The part of this page people actually want to know, stated plainly rather than left in a policy document.
On the free no-email tier, none of your training leaves the phone (bar the crash reports and update checks noted in Accounts). From the email tier up, it does. Your pets, sessions, stats, goals, cues, treats, plans, Coach conversations and notebooks, session recordings, camera frames and live-session logs are stored on our servers, and they are kept for as long as your account exists.
Sessions are used to train our models, and there is no switch to turn that off. We build the compact model behind the live trainer, and the Privacy Policy names what goes into it: live-session logs (the camera frames, the transcript of what you said, and what the model said back), session recordings and statistics, your conversations with Coach and its notebook files, camera bursts and frames condensed from videos, and the plans you write. Then, in the same section: "There is no in-app toggle to exclude your data."
We would rather you read that here than discover it later.
How to say no anyway. Email [email protected] and your account is excluded from every dataset assembled after the request lands. It does not undo a model already trained, because a trained model is a derived work: it holds no individual session of yours, but its behavior was shaped by them and that shaping cannot be unpicked. An address is a worse mechanism than a toggle, and it is the mechanism there is today.
Deleting your account. From account settings in the app or on the web, or by email from the address on the account. It goes within 30 days, apart from what has to be kept for billing and legal reasons and anything already de-identified or baked into a trained model. Deleting the app off your phone does not delete the account. Forks other people made of your public plans stay theirs.
Media sits at unlisted links. Pet portraits, camera frames, demo clips and session recordings live at long random URLs that are not indexed anywhere, but that open without a login for anyone holding the exact link. Portraits and demo clips are meant to be public. Recordings and frames are only linked from your account and your co-trainers'. Treat those links as private, because the link is the lock.
Who else touches it. Coach runs on Anthropic's Claude models, so your messages, frames and pet context go to Anthropic. Dictation and Coach's spoken voice go through xAI. The live trainer runs on GPU servers we rent and control. Storage and hosting are contracted providers. None of them are authorized to train their own models on your content.
And one that is on you rather than on us. Camera frames and live-session audio record the room, including other people and their voices. Getting whatever consent your local law wants before you film or record around others is your responsibility, not the app's.

Selling your data. We do not, there are no ads, and there is no cross-app tracking. Training our own models on your sessions is a different thing, which is why it is written out above instead of summarised as "we care about your privacy".
The Apple Watch App
Install the watch app and you can mark reps from your wrist. It sounds like a small thing and it is not: a phone occupies the hand you needed for the treat, and fishing it out of a pocket between reps is how a rate of reinforcement quietly collapses.
The session runs as a workout, which has two consequences. You can put the phone away entirely and keep training. And the session lands in Apple Fitness afterwards as a recorded workout, counting toward your rings, which is a reasonable reflection of what half an hour of training actually is.
There are no calories on it. We record the time and let your watch record your heart rate; we are not going to invent a number for what standing in your kitchen paying a dog cost you. A workout showing zero calories is the app being honest, not broken.
Often confused with
A second copy of the app. It is the same session, one set of reps. Nothing is being recorded twice.
The Widget and Live Activities
Both iOS only, for now.
The widget on your home screen opens the plan you trained most recently, straight into the Player. Its whole job is removing the three taps between deciding to train and training, which matters more than it should, because the training that does not happen is almost never the training you decided against.
Live Activities keep the running session on your lock screen and Dynamic Island while you are in it.
Often confused with
A reminder. Neither of them nags you. The widget is a door, not an alarm.
Offline, and What Needs a Signal
Everything you do with a dog in front of you works offline, on every tier. The plans, the engine, judging reps, your history, goals and games all live on the phone. Fields, forest tracks, the back of a vet's car park, aeroplanes: all fine.
What needs a connection is the parts that are not the dog. Talking to Coach, writing or editing a plan, syncing between your devices, and the website, which does not work offline at all. Those catch up when you are back in signal.
One practical consequence worth planning around: a new plan has to come down to the phone before you can train it. The plans already on your phone are yours anywhere, but picking up a fresh one is not. So if you are going somewhere without signal and want a few new things to work on, open them on the phone before you go.
This is the same on every tier. Subscribing does not put your training online; it adds Coach, and Coach is the part that needs a signal. A subscriber in a forest can still train, still judge reps, still see their history. They just cannot ask anybody about it until they are home.
This is deliberate. A training app that stops working where the training is happening is not a training app.

Offline meaning limited. The offline half is the whole product. The online half is the commentary.
